Sheila grew up in the beautiful Fingerlakes area of central New York State. In fact, her parents‘ home was located on one of these lakes, so she spent much of her childhood playing outside, swimming in the lake in summer and playing in the snow during winter.
After high school, eager to speak a foreign language well, she spent a year as an exchange student in northern Italy. She loved the daily adventures of being immersed in a foreign language and experiencing a different culture. After she returned to the U.S., Sheila studied English, Elementary Education and Italian in Dallas, Texas and upon graduating, she began her career as a teacher.
After a year of teaching adolescents, she won a scholarship to study literature at a university in Italy. Again, she relished this experience and made many lasting friendships and memories during this year.
Upon her return, she taught at an inner city school in Houston until the birth of her first child and subsequent move to New Orleans. Over the course of several years, Sheila continued to work part-time as an English teacher and finished a Masters Degree while caring for her children. In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Sheila lived with her family for a year in Freiburg, Germany. In 2010, they returned to Germany and settled near Mainz. She enjoys interacting with diverse groups of people as a teacher, and spending time with her husband and four daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring new places and writing nonfiction essays. So Sheila is a constant source of inspiration for the TIP TOP English team.
